In March 2025 the Southcote Community Association was granted £5,000 by Reading Borough Council. Over the past year we’ve put these to good use and have now submitted our report to RBC, informing them how we have used the grant funds.
Our major initiative was to relaunch our quarterly newsletter, the Southcote Echo. This has allowed us to inform residents of what the SCA has been doing, such as the launch of our monthly bingo nights. We also promote local services such as Southcote Library, Southcote Pantry, and RBC Housing drop-in sessions.
We were able to purchase equipment required to run events, including a gazebo, branded event materials and various office equipment needed to produce posters and notices for our events.
Some funds were used to either participate in or run events. These included us taking a stand at the Reading Children’s Festival, subsidising the meal at our annual Seniors Lunch, and running the Southcote May Fayre in May 2026.
Most recently we have purchased some branded Hi-Vis jackets that we will be using as we start our monthly litter picking sessions in April. If you see us out and about please do come and say hello.
